Cook County and Palatine Township officials to host Property Assessment Appeal Workshop in Rolling Meadows

Public invited to attend workshop that will help Palatine Township taxpayers understand proposed property reassessment values and assist with the appeal process

ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. –August 12, 2019—Cook County Commissioners Kevin B. Morrison and Scott Britton, the Office of Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi, and Palatine Township Assessor Terry Kelly will co-host a Property Assessment Appeal Workshop on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Rolling Meadows Public Library for Palatine Township residents. The event, which is free and open to the public, will help taxpayers understand their proposed reassessment values and assist with the property assessment appeal process.

“I’m dedicated to ensuring that property assessments in my district are fair and accurate, and making sure that my constituents have the tools and resources they need to successfully appeal an inaccurate assessment is a big part of how I can fulfill that commitment,” said Commissioner Kevin Morrison. “I’m holding workshops like this across my district as property values are reassessed because I don’t want my constituents to pay a penny more than they should.”

The Office of the Cook County Assessor is responsible for setting fair and accurate values for property in Cook County and must, by law, periodically update the values. Done on a triennial cycle, reassessments of property values for the north and west suburbs will occur in 2019 and residents will have one month to file an appeal after their assessment is mailed. Assessment notices for Palatine Township were mailed on August 2nd and the deadline to file an appeal is September 3rd.

“I am pleased that we are able continue to bring the County Assessor’s Office and Township Assessors to residents, where they live, to ensure they have the information and resources they need to understand their triennial reassessment and take advantage of every avenue to ensure that it is equitable to their neighbors,” said Commissioner Scott Britton. “This is a complicated process, which is why my office is available throughout this entire process to answer questions, help residents fill out property tax appeal forms and find the needed comparable properties.”

The Property Assessment Appeal Workshop is free and open to the public. For more information, contact (847)-519-7674 or email District15@CookCountyIL.gov. Details about the event are below.
