Property Tax Exemption Update

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Cook County Assessor’s Office will continue the automatic renewal of several property tax exemptions. This applies to:

• Senior Freeze Exemption

• Veterans with Disabilities Exemption

• Persons with Disabilities Exemption

• Homeowner Exemption

• Senior Exemption

If you received these exemptions last year, you don't need to reapply. Instead, you will see the exemption applied to the second installment of your property tax bill.

To verify which exemptions were received last year, homeowners can visit the Cook County Property Tax Portal enter their PIN and look under the exemption tab.

For first-time applicants, the 2021 tax year exemption filing period will begin in early March 2022, and homeowners are encouraged to file online. You can learn more about available property tax exemptions by visiting the Cook County Assessor's website.
