Silver Star Banner Award

Cook County Veterans Affairs is inviting Cook County veterans and current service members to participate in the 2019 Silver Star Banner Program. Initiated in 2008, this event allows the County Board to recognize service members of the United States Armed Forces who have been wounded or become ill while serving in a war zone.


Applicants must be current or former honorably serving member of the Armed Forces from ANY war, who have been wounded by enemy action, been injured, or contracted a serious illness that led to an at least 10 percent disabled rating by the Department of Veterans Affairs. All wounds, injuries or illnesses must have originated in a war zone, including: Purple Heart recipients, victims of friendly fire, injured in a war zone, and those who suffer from PTS, TBI, Agent Orange Effects or Gulf War Syndrome.


The request form must be signed and returned to Veterans Affairs via email or fax no later than Friday, May 24.


Recipients will be honored at the Cook County Board Meeting on Wednesday, June 26.
